S.O.D. "A Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight" by Theodore August Metz

4/20/2018     Was this tune composed by Metz in 1896, or sometime before that by an unknown artist?  There are a few different versions of how it came about.  One such version was when Metz was with the McIntyre and Heath Minstrels traveling by train and pulling in to a place called Old Town. Metz noticed a group of children lighting a fire near the tracks and one of the minstrels said "there'll be a hot time in the old town tonight."  The song is still constantly used by many universities at sporting events including Wisconsin, Michigan and Texas A&M. It became a staple during many wars and was used as a theme song by Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders.
