S.O.D. "Big Chief" by Professor Longhair

10/6/2018  Many other piano players knew right away when they heard Longhair playing.  His genres of blues, R&B and boogie woogie often sounded like mambo, rhumba and calypso.  He had to tone down his crazy style a bit in order to sell more records.  After his death in 1980, he was posthumously awarded a Grammy, inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  He was an influence to many, but none so much as pianist, composer and record producer Allen Toussaint, who stated of other pianists, "Black or white, local or out of town, they all had Longhair's music in common.  Just that mambo-rhumba boogie thing."
