S.O.D. "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glenn Campbell

8/25/2017      Yes this incredible personality and musician has left us.  This man went from picking cotton for $1.25 per 100 pounds to becoming one of the most popular and respected celebrities to ever pick up a guitar.  The first guitar he picked up was a four dollar Sears special that his Uncle Bob bought for him when Campbell was just four years old.  He wasted no time, becoming good enough to perform on local radio stations by the time he was six.

His family owned a farm in Arkansas and barely got by, sometimes working on more successful farms for the day's wage.  He moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico at age 17 to join his uncle's band known as Dick Bills and the Sandia Mountain Boys.

Campbell starred in many movies, hosted his own television show, and won a whopping 33 awards including 10 Grammys and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.  His discography includes 60 studio albums, 127 compilation albums, 7 live albums, 4 soundtrack albums, and 115 singles, of which 9 went to #1.  He often performed with Roy Clark and many of us might remember the two musicians playing together on the comedy, musical variety show, "Hee Haw."  This was his biggest hit.
