S.O.D. "Victory Song" by Lavone "Pepper" Paire Davis & Nalda "Birdie" Marie Bird
5/14/2017 Lavone and Nalda were real life baseball players in the professional girls league in the 1940s and 50s during World War II. The two got together and wrote the song for which there seems to be no date. Nalda was a hard throwing left handed pitcher for the South Bend Blue Sox who only played one year. She is one of only three pitchers in history, men and women, to throw back to back shutouts in a doubleheader.
Pepper played for 4 teams during her 9 year career, mainly at the position of catcher. She also played infield and sometimes pitched. She was considered by many the best catcher in the league and tied for 4th place for the most RBIs. Director Penny Marshall made her technical advisor for the 1992 movie "A League of Their Own." She is the author of the book, "Dirt in the Skirt."
