S.O.D. "Whipping Post" by The Allman Brothers Band
2/7/2017 From their 1969 self-titled debut album. This song, one of their most successful, is a tribute to drummer Butch Trucks, who passed away this January and was one of the founding members of the group.
Born Claude Hudson Trucks, May 11, 1947 in Jacksonville, Fl., he first discovered his drumming talent when his junior high band director handed him some drumsticks and said "play me something." Bandmate, guitarist and the group's primary songwriter, Dickey Betts stated, "when Butch came along, he had that freight train, meat-and-potatoes kind of thing that set Jaimoe (the group's other drummer) up perfectly. He had the power thing we needed."
In 1969 when Trucks was considering going back to college to study mathematics, Duane Allman asked him to join his new project which included a record deal with Atlantic Records.
