11/27/2017      Went deep into the genre finder for this one.  How about a genre named after a drink.  Palm Wine originated among the Kru people of the West African coast way back whenever, but it wasn’t known as Palm Wine until the 1950s.  In other West African countries it is called Maringa.  There is a tree in this region called the oil palm which produces naturally fermented sap. From this the drink, palm wine is made.  This was the drink of choice for musical gatherings that produced the genre.  The main instrument used is a Portuguese guitar, with bass and percussion accompanying.  Music of this sort often combines Trinidadian calypso.
