1/26/2017 Of his 66 major recordings, 32 went to #1, usually for multiple weeks. He was popular for his radio shows, TV and movie appearances, and was known to many as the King of Jazz. Whiteman received quite a few honors and is believed to have created more then 3000 compositions. His style was criticized by many for trying to sort of tame the jazz genre. He was a bandleader, composer and violinist, learning first to play the viola. This 1922 release was #1 for 8 weeks.
