S.O.D. "Out There" by Dinosaur Jr.
9/7/2015 These guys have been all over the musical genre map, exploring everything from wimpy jangly stuff (as they put it) to speed metal. J Mascis and Lou Barlow, two of the band's founders, were playing in a group called Deep Wound while still attending high school. A short time later, Gerard Cosloy, a college friend of Mascis, introduced him to psychedelic pop influenced bands like Dream Syndicate. In 1984 Deep Wound broke up and later with Deep Wound's lead singer Charlie Nakajima and acquired bassist Emmett Patrick Murphy (Murph), the band Mogo was formed. After the first performance Mogo was no more, due to Nakajima's behavior in using the music to try and start an anti-police tirade. The next day Mascis invited Barlow and Murph in secrecy to start a new band which would be Dinosaur.
Cosloy had since dropped out of college to concentrate on his independent record label and had promised Mascis that he would help him cut his first record. In 1985 that is exactly what happened when the band met at a small home studio in the woods outside of North Hampton, Massachusetts to record the album "Dinosaur". After their second album "You're Living All Over Me" was released in 1987, the band was forced to add Jr to its name when the supergroup, The Dinosaurs, tried to sue them.
After many arguments and lineup changes, the group dispersed in 1997 and reformed in 2005 with the three original members. They are still active and have released 10 albums. Mascis' low-key whiny vocals are influenced by artists such as Mick Jagger and John Fogerty. The band's main genres are alternative rock, indie rock and noise rock. This tune is from their 1993 album "Where You Been".
