S.O.D. "Insomniac" by Echobelly
9/27/2016 Lead vocalist Sonya Madan and guitartist Glenn Johansson composed this 1994 Britpop release. The song is about drug use, most likely speed or cocaine, and the dangers thereof. It topped out at #47 on the UK Singles chart and shows up on the 1994 soundtrack for "Dumb and Dumber."
Sonya Madan was born in Delhi, India, moving to England at age 2. With her traditional strict upbringing, getting acquainted with rock music was quite difficult. She loved to sing though, even as a small child and finally met someone to guide her in the right direction. That someone was Johansson at an English pub. They dated for a while and after the break up began to form Echobelly and remained the group's songwriters as well as the only constant members. The band takes their name from the simple notion of being hungry.
