S.O.D. "Tom's Diner" by Suzanne Vega
9/20/2016 Having to do with Tom's Restaurant in NY City, also the famed restaurant featured in Seinfeld and located on the corner of 112th St and Broadway. Vega is the sole writer and most likely wrote the song while sitting in the diner looking through a pane of glass. She wrote like this do to a comment made by her friend Brian Rose who is a photographer. He told her that when he does his work, he imagines he is looking through a pane glass as a witness to many things but never really involved. No one is really sure exactly what date she wrote the song. The very first version of the tune is a cappella.
Vega was born in Santa Monica, California in 1959, has been active since 1982, plays guitar, and sings, many times with eclectic inspired lyrics. She has her own record label called Amanuensis Productions, which is kind of a joke meaning that the servants own the masters. This is due to her still legally owning her master tapes.
