S.O.D. "Run Around" by Blues Traveler

8/6/2015     This tune won the band its first Grammy in 1995 for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group and was there breakthrough hit charting at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and ranking on 7 other charts in the US.  Lead vocalist and harmonicist John Popper composed the song which has to do with an argument he is having with a female friend.  The title of the song is fitting as the words break down into total nonsense upon examination but also references Richie Valen's tune "La Bamba", Psalm 23; Matthew 7:7; and Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven".  Since the song's release, it has made up 66% of the band's live performances.

Blues Traveler was formed in Princeton New Jersey in 1987 and are still active. They began as a Garage Band and called themselves The Establishment. They take the name Blues Traveler from the Blues genre and the second part from the Ghostbusters demon, Gozer the Traveler.  When this song was first aired I'm sure some people thought the harmonica was a synthesizer.
