S.O.D. "Don't Speak" by No Doubt
8/7/2015 Maybe the best break up song ever, this remarkably catchy tune charted in 17 countries and 21 different charts reaching #1 on 14 of those charts and some for many consecutive weeks. It also went Gold in 4 countries, Platinum in 4 countries and Platinum X2 in 2 countries. Even with all this popularity it failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 due to the fact it was never commercially released as a single, a requirement at that time for that particular chart. It did however stay at #1 for 16 nonconsecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay.
"Don't Speak" was written by lead vocalist Gwen Stefani and her brother and keyboardist Eric Stefani. It has to do with the break up of Gwen and No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal after their 7 year relationship. They sorted out their differences and remain bandmates. The release year was 1995 and on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks it stayed at #2 for 5 consecutive weeks behind Bush's #1 hit "Swallowed", remaining in that position for seven weeks. Bush was led by Gavin Rossdale, Stefani's future husband.
The multi-genre group originated in Anaheim, California in 1986 and are still active. They have released six albums and have been nominated for 44 awards, winning 14.
