S.O.D. "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba

8/30/2015     On numerous occasions the band has performed this tune substituting different lyrics having to do with current events and issues that were important to them at the time such as the Liverpool dockers' strike in 1998.  In July 2011 the song was played as the Flight Day 4 "wake up call" for the last mission of Space Shuttle STS 135, flight of Atlantis and the retirement of astronaut Sandra Magnus.  The group has also turned down lucrative offers to use their song for purposes they just don't believe in.

The entire band had a hand in writing the song which was released in 1998 and charted in 15 countries ranking at #1 in 6 countries including the U.S.  A tubthumper is a term used often for a politician wanting to jump on the bandwagon with a populist idea.  Chumbawamba under the genres of pop, folk, and anarcho-punk were active from 1980–2012 and formed in Burnley, England.  They produced 16 albums in all.
