S.O.D. "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast" by Wayne Newton

8/21/2016      Referred to as Mr. Las Vegas, Mr. Entertainment, and The Midnight Idol, he is in his 54th year of performing. When you think about this man you probably don't realize that he does much more then sing.  Playing the guitar, piano, steel guitar and percussion, he began all of these instruments, save percussion, at the age of six.  Living in Ohio at a young age, his family moved out west to Arizona due to his asthma.

In 1983 a huge change was made by Secretary of the Interior for President Ronald Reagan, James G. Watt.  He was responsible for replacing rock groups The Beach Boys and The Grass Roots with Wayne Newton to perform on July 4 on the national mall. This was due to too much drug and alcohol use during the performances.

Newton has raised millions for diabetes research and breeds Arabian horses.  This was his only single that sold over 1 million copies.  Eleven covers have been recorded including by Charlie Rich and Roy Clark.  It was written by songwriter and record producer Peter Callandar along with songwriter and record producer Geoff Stevens and released in 1972.  His songs have been featured in nearly 20 films and 39 singles are to his credit.

You can now see him in Las Vegas at Bally's Hotel in his new show "Up Close and Personal."  Wayne gives the people their moneys worth, sometimes performing six shows in one night.
