S.O.D. "Reel Ten" by The Plugz

7/3/2016     Basically a trio with guitar, bass and drums, this rock/punk rock/Latino group was active from 1977–1984. Considered to be one of the first Latino punk bands to emerge, they were also known to be the first D.I.Y. (do it yourself) punk band in LA and even started their own label called Plugz Records.  Consisting of guitarist/lead vocalist Tito Larriva, bassist/backing vocalist Barry McBride and Charlie Quintana on drums, many of their songs had to do with their childhoods as Latinos and the anger and struggles that went along with it.

Larriva did something quite amazing, going to school for a full-term at Yale University after sneaking in.  He was eventually kicked out but WOW, what guts and balls.  He would eventually go on to play with Tito & Tarantula in 1992 of which he was a founding member of.  Quintana joined up with Social Distortion in 2000 and has also recorded music with Cracker, Jimmy and the Mustangs, Bob Dylan, and a few more.  McBride left the group early in 1980 with a few other bass guitarists following.  They used many guest musicians in the form of horns, piano and keyboards.  This tune is a bit slower from their 1979 album of the same name.

This video is from the movie "Repo Man" starring Emilio Estevez in which the tune was featured.
