S.O.D. "Down Under" by Men at Work
7/24/2015 Surprise surprise this group originated in Sydney Australia. They were active from 1976–1986 and 1996-2002 with occasional reunions until 2012. They're categorized under the genres of new wave, pop rock and reggae rock. In 1983 they were the first Australian group to achieve a simultaneous #1 album "Business as Usual" and #1 single "Down Under" in the US. In Australia, New Zealand and the UK, they achieved the same.
In 1983 they won the Grammy for Best New Artist. Asia, The Human League, Jennifer Holliday and The Stray Cats were the other nominees. Also in 1983 they were honored with a Juno Award for Best International LP of the Year. The tune has to do with an Australian tourist traveling to other countries voicing the pride of his heritage. Alongside other Australian artists, Men at Work performed "Down Under" during the closing ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
