S.O.D. "The Heart of Rock and Roll" by Huey Lewis
7/22/2015
Mixed reviews for this tune and a music video that took way too long to film. And although it landed at #6 on the US charts, it was ranked by some critics on their worst song list including Blender Magazine who ranked it #6 on the their list of the 50 Worst Songs Ever. Of course that's why we have critics so they can compete with each other. Stephen Erlewine of Allmusic calls it a song with memorable hooks driven home by an economical precision by a tight bar band, given just enough polish to make them sound like superstars.
The music video took a long time to complete due to high winds on the Brooklyn Bridge making it extremely difficult for the helicopter to come in close with a camera shot. Another problem was the frigid 21° weather when the band was filming in Times Square wearing only short sleeves and light jackets. Still a third problem was the fact that Lewis' wife was having a baby any day which caused many delays. The group has had 19 top 10 singles with their greatest work, the album "Sports."
