"Wonderwall" by Oasis

7/11/2015    This 1995 Britpop tune has been rated on many lists and polls including a 2005 poll conducted by Virgin Radio which involved 8500 listeners ranking it as the #1 British Song of All Time.  In a more impressive poll conducted in 2006 by Q Magazine, Wonderwall was voted the 2nd Greatest Song of All Time finishing behind the song "Live Forever" also by Oasis.  

     The tune's writer, coproducer and bandmember Noel Gallagher was believed to have written it for his then girlfriend Meg Matthews.  However after their breakup he said it was never written for her but instead tells of an imaginary friend coming to save you from yourself.  It topped the charts in five different countries.
