S.O.D. "Barroom Boogie" by Y & T

5/5/2015     No awards for this song, just a fun tune about a guy that goes out one night to a bar and everything that can happen does, including too much booze, hitting on a much bigger man's girlfriend, and waking up in the morning next to a 2-3.  Leonard Haze, Bob Gardner and Wayne Stitzer had a band in 1972 and were mostly doing covers.  What they needed more than anything was a name for the band. In 1973 Dave Meniketti auditioned for a guitar and vocal spot and shortly after they were called for their first gig.

While they were all standing there wondering what to do about a name, Leonard noted the music that was playing on his turntable, "Yesterday and Today" a Beatles compilation album.  They eventually shortened the name to Y&T after a new record deal with A&M records in 1980.  The new name was much easier for their fans to chant.  They began touring and opening up for bands such as Wild Cherry.  At the time they didn't know it but they were one of the main acts to introduce the hard rock/heavy metal genre.  Their 1984 album  "In Rock We Trust" is their highest selling record to date.  In 1985 they released their single "Summertime Girls" which remains their highest charting song coming in at number 17 in the U.S.  It also received heavy play on MTV and was frequently heard on the Baywatch television series.  They have been on hiatus a couple times but are now back together touring.
