S.O.D. "Around The World" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/25/2015 There are some cool things about the making of the song having to do with composing it in Flea's garage. Lead vocalist Anthony Kiedis explains that the lyrics are an inspiration from Roberto Benigni's 1998 film "Life Is Beautiful" and tells of his life as a member of the band and how extreme that kind of life can be. When Frusciante was composing the music he told the band that someone had to play it with him since it had such a deceptive downbeat, and drummer Chad Smith sat in on the high hat. The other members listened and liked what they heard, then Flea added the bass line.
During their garage sessions Kiedis was having trouble finding lyrics for some of the songs and used scat to fill them in. Scat is a vocal ability to use the voice as an instrument a improvise melodies and rhythms. Flea's daughter would always listen to the final versions and was disappointed that the scat had been removed at the end of the song so she proceeded to talk them into using the original demo recording.
The Chili Peppers were formed in 1983 in Los Angeles and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. Among the members inducted is multi instrumentalist Josh Klinghoffer who at the time was 32 making him the youngest artist to ever be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame upstaging Sammy Davis Junior who was 38 at the time. To date they have sold over 80 million albums worldwide and won 7 Grammys.
