S.O.D. "I Don't Wanna To Grow Up" by Tom Waits

2/7/2016     From his 1992 album "Bone Machine," this is the perfect song for all of us who like to act very not grown up once in a while or more than once in a while.  On the album cover, the crazy picture is of Waits in a leather skullcap and safety goggles. It was taken by the son of Bob Dylan, Jesse Dylan and is worn by Waits in the videos for this song and "Goin' Out West."

The album was recorded at Prairie Sun Recording Studios in Cotati, California. The recording room that Waits uses is in the cellar  of the studio, is known as the Waits Room and consists of a cement floor and walls and a hot water heater.  He uses it for its echo capabilities.

There is no mistaking this artist's voice, and music critic, Daniel Durchholz probably described it best as a voice that sounds as if "it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car."  Still, he has been placed on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers list and their 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time list.  Tom was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. Waits is still doing what he does best.
