S.O.D. "What the World Needs Now is Love" by Jackie DeShannon
11/12/2016 Do we ever. Born Sharon Lee Meyers in Hazel, Kentucky, she began singing very young and by age 6 she could be heard on the radio singing country songs. When Myers was 11 she was hosting her own radio show. After her high school sophomore year, she left school to pursue her career.
In 1960 after her voice had been heard by many, rock and roller Eddie Cochran took notice and arranged for her to come to California and meet his girlfriend, singer/songwriter Sharon Sheeley. This turned out to be a good fit and DeShannon became one of the first female artists to take on the rock 'n' roll genre. Aside from TV and film appearances she has released 41 albums and 59 singles with many hit love songs.
These days at age 75 you can catch her on satellite radio broadcasting historical music related anecdotes and reporting on current Beatles activities on "Breakfast With The Beatles."
