S.O.D. "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show" by Honey Cone
10/3/2016 Another all girl group, three of them to be exact and all of them lead vocalists even if two of them only sang back up. Edna Wright normally sang lead and was responsible for putting the group together. She is the sister of singer/actress Darlene Love who played the wife to Danny Glover's character, Roger Murtaugh in the "Lethal Weapon" movies.
Their R&B version was released in 1971 with three versions preceding it, the first being in 1950 by Stick McGhee and His Buddies. There are actually many songs with this title that are composed differently. The title is an African-American phrase basically meaning "one setback should not impede progress."
Honey Cone was active from 1969–1973 and reunited in 2014 on the Soul Train Cruise. They released 5 albums and 13 singles with "Want Ads" and "Stick-Up" being their two biggest hits and topping the charts in the U.S., both earning Gold certification.
