S.O.D. "Blueberry Hill" by Fats Domino

1/10/2015     Written by composer and musician Vincent Rose, lyricist Al Lewis and songwriter Larry Stock, it was first recorded by Gene Autry in 1940.  Louis Armstrong had a successful version in 1949 which reached #29 on the Billboard Top 40. Making it a rock and roll success and international hit was Fats Domino in 1956.  His version went to #2 on the Top 40, #1 on the R&B Best Sellers chart and was ranked #82 on Rolling Stones list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

More than 40 versions of the tune have been attempted.  Among these artists are Little Richard, Elvis Presley, The Beach boys, Link Wray and Led Zeppelin.  If you remember the television series "Happy Days," Richie Cunningham played by Ron Howard would often sing the first line of the song, "I found my thrill," referring to a hot girl on the show.  Sorry, they didn't say "hot" in the 50s.
