S.O.D. "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" by Flatt & Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys

1/8/2016     Remember the theme from the Beverly hillbillies? Well these guys are the music makers.  With Scruggs on amazing banjo and Flatt with the guitar, they have certainly earned their place in country music history and bluegrass.  Flatt passed on to Country Music & Bluegrass Heaven in 1979 and Scruggs in 2012.  The Foggy Mountain Boys have been made up of 24 other members from 1948-1970.

Scruggs began playing banjo at the age of 4 and is maybe the most influential bluegrass banjo master that has ever existed.  The tune won Scruggs a Grammy in 2001 and is the music you hear through much of the 1967 film "Bonnie and Clyde" starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.

The Library of Congress included the song in the National Recording Registering as one of their 50 recordings for the year 2004.  Scruggs used a five string banjo for the song which is considered to be one of the most difficult and fastest tunes on the instrument.

Look for the You Tube video that took place on The David Letterman Show that features an entire band with about 5 banjos including Steve Martin.  This performance was the Grammy winner.
