1/28/2016 The song was originally written as a composition Iglesias thought he would slow dance to at his prom. It took a big turn ending up as a song featured for the "America: A Tribute to Heroes," the 9/11 event, which took place on September 21, 2001.
The 2001 Latin pop tune charted in 20 countries, taking the #1 spot in 11 of them including 3 out of 6 U.S. charts. It has been featured in numerous TV and film spots, won 6 awards, remained in the #1 spot on the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart for 15 weeks and went platinum in five countries. It is cowritten by British musician and songwriter Paul Barry and record producer and songwriter Mark Taylor. To this point, the song has sold more than 8 million copies.
Iglesias has been active since 1994, is referred to by many as the King of Latin Pop and has already won close to 200 awards.
