S.O.D. "Smoky Mokes" by Abe Holzmann
1/27/2016 Let's go back a ways to 1899 and this classical instrumental that has a happy flair to it and just might make your day. Holzmann was a fairly popular Hungarian/American composer and was one of the first members of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, (ASCAP). Tin Pan Alley music publishers of which Holzmann was a part of, pretty much controlled popular music throughout the United States during the late 1800s through the early 1900s and were based in Manhattan.
This tune is featured in the 1936 film, "San Francisco" and is one of two songs he completed before 1900. He had 19 works in all with "Blaze-Away," a tribute to Theodore Roosevelt being his most popular. If you've had a rough day, sit back, close your eyes and listen.
