S.O.D. "Proud Mary" by Creedence Clearwater Revival
1/18/2016: Who is Mary? Whoever she is, she helped CCR on their way to stardom. It is said that that Mary is a washerwoman used in a lyric from a song. Lyrics from other songs combine for the arrangement of "Proud Mary" having to do with the lyrics, such as "Rollin' on the river" and "Left a good job in the city."
John Fogerty wrote the 1969 release two days after being discharged from the National Guard. The roots rock/swamp rock song topped out at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been ranked at #155 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Though the song has been forged from many different artists, Tina Turner had the most successful in 1993.
Just about every cover band you here at your local bar probably has this song on their list.
