S.O.D. "Kind of a Drag" by the Buckinghams
12/20/2015 S.O.D. "Kind Of A Drag" by the Buckinghams. Anyone ever heard of the genre, sunshine pop? It's certainly the first song I've seen under that genre. Some of the bandmembers thought the song would go nowhere, calling it wimpy, but he tune had a special sound that included pop with horns which was rare for that era.
It took seven weeks to climb to #1, surpassing the Rolling Stones' "Ruby Tuesday" and the Monkees' "I'm A Believer." When it did reach #1, the band was without a manager or record label. The tune was written by songwriter Jim Holvay and the horn section music was composed by Frank Tesinsky. The album of the same name was their debut LP.
They got their start in Chicago in 1966, took a break from 1970-1980 and are going strong today, occasionally playing sold-out shows. They have released 15 albums and 17 singles and sometimes perform the national anthem for their home teams in Chicago.
