S.O.D. "Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom)" by Perry Como

12/15/2015     This outstanding performer has passed on to music, radio and TV heaven.  Sort of a nonsense phrase here that still made it to #1 in 1956.  Como's voice could make any song shine.

When you look up songwriter Al Hoffman, it lists the acts of his time but also states that he wrote music for just about every star of that era including Bette Midler, Louis Armstrong and Patsy Cline.  Hoffman wrote the song along with his songwriting partner, Dick Manning.  Manning had recorded the basis of "Hot Diggity in his studio before a song of that nature was needed for Como. While riding the New York subway with Como's publishing agent, Mickey Glass, the two talked about what would become that song.

If you can remember the RCA Victor albums, that goes back a ways and is the record company Como mostly recorded for.  His career as a vocalist and TV personality lasted 65 years with him being a great example for performers walking in his footsteps. If there was ever the slightest bit of content that he thought unsuitable for his show, he would cancel it right away.  RCA Billboard magazine said of him; "50 years of music and a life well lived. An example to us all."

He has of course won many awards,  sold many millions of records, has been inducted into a few halls of fame.  Also the rare accomplishment of three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for TV, radio and music.
