S.O.D. "What A Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong
11/26/2015 S.O.D. "What A Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. A Thanksgiving tribute here. Although many artists have covered this 1967 traditional pop tune, its 15 film and 21 television appearances have all been the Louis Armstrong version. At 66 years old, Armstrong was the oldest performer to top the UK Singles chart. Tom Jones broke this record in 2009 with his version of "Islands In the Stream".
Armstrong's version charted in 11 countries taking the #1 spot in Austria. In 1988 it found new life being featured in the film "Good Morning Vietnam" starring Robin Williams. Written by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss, it was originally offered to Tony Bennett who turned it down, then later covered the song many times to honor his friend Armstrong. The song was written as a message of hope to bring people of different races together in the U.S.
