S.O.D. "Motorcycle Mama" by Sailcat
10/30/2015 A little southern rock and country blues here. This single is the band's most popular tune and just about single-handedly secured a record deal with Elektra. The band actually didn't think to much of it. It is from the 1972 album of the same name. The album is biker themed and has to do with a motorcycling drifter who wants to settle down.
Drummer, John Wyker, formerly of The Rubber Band, and bassist, Court Pickett formerly of Sundown, were the founding members. An appearance on American Bandstand and at Carnegie Hall came about due to the track which went to #12 on the Billboard Singles charts. The group toured to promote the album but broke up shortly after its release.
American cartoonist and illustrator, Jack Davis, who was also a founding member of Mad Magazine, provided the cover art for the album. Each song has drawings symbolizing it, mostly with Harley Davidson motorcycles.
