S.O.D. "Old Hippie" by The Bellamy Brothers
Probably something that's not kept track of, but if you took a poll on how many people related to this song....you know. Being a die-hard hippie in the 60s, getting drafted to Vietnam, then returning home to resume that lifestyle can be rough. The Bellamy Brothers do a good job with this story using a catchy tune that really grows on you after a few or just one listen. Keep your ears open as well for some important references to music.
The 1985 country tune was written by David Bellamy and produced by Emory Gordy and Jimmy Bowen. Gordy is the husband of Patty Loveless and successful producer and musician. Bowen, an accomplished singer in his own right had a lucrative pop solo career and has produced records for artists such as Frank and Nancy Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.
Two versions were done by the brothers with minor musical and lyrical changes. On the Country charts, it went to #2 in the U.S. and #1 in Canada.
Davi and Howard Bellamy originated in Pasco County, Florida in 1968 and are still entertaining fans. They followed up their first #1 hit "Let Your Love Flow" with 20 more #1s and 50 hits all together.
