7/12/2023 A single released from the 2009 album, “A Hundred Million Suns.” The alternative rock band from Dundee, Scotland has been active since 1994. Someone in the group is connected with the cold, as they were first known as Polarbear.
7/11/2023 Getting her start in 1964, Joni got back into musical things in 2022 after an eight year hiatus. She is praised by many for her songwriting abilities,
7/10/2023 Although only active eight years, and dispersing in 2004, this Scottish group made some accomplishments. Their music caught the attention of other artists, especially the bands, Oasis, and Radiohead. Oasis went on to employ them as their opening act during a 2001 tour.
7/9/2023 This very cool song was written by Otis Redding, Allen Jones, and Al Bell, recorded in 1967, and released in 1968. The Crowes version, released in 1990, really kicked butt, but only charted mediocre, which doesn’t make any sense. Seventeen other artists tried their hand.
7/8/2023 This seasoned multi instrumentalist is still with us at 76, and still active, in his 54th year of jamming. Visually stimulating musicianship.
7/7/2023 This 1977 pop/rock song could either be about Carly Simon, or Taylor and Simon’s daughter, Sally Taylor, just 3 y/o at the time. Should have been a #1 hit.
7/6/2023 Classified as a hard rock/Southern rock tune, it has become one of their classics, although not very popular upon its release. It was written by frontman, Phil Lynott, and drummer, Brian Downey. “Cowboy Song” is the title of Lynott’s biography.
7/5/2023 Mr Withers did it all with this 1972 soul song. We’re talking, written, produced, and performed. After making an incredible impression in the music world, he left us in 2020. This was 35 years after he turned away from his musical career.
7/4/2023 Mr. Guy is still with us at 86. A guitar and voice is all he has ever needed. Gobs of awards and accolades have been bestowed. He was born George Guy in Lettsworth, LA., and is in his 70th year of musical wonderment.
7/3/2023 From the bands 10th studio album, released in 1980. The album is simply called “Tenth.” The song was not released as a single, and is the longest song on the disc at 6:19.
7/2/2023 A 1964 Mersey Beat (genre) song. Written by Gerry himself. Produced by George Martin. You remember that guy.
7/1/2023 We are not recognizing this vocalist, and can’t really find any info on her or the studio. Beautiful voice!!
6/30/2023 From the 1988 album of the same name. The song and video is a takeoff of the slogan and commercial, “This Bud’s For You.” It is more or less a parody of beer commercials, and features popstar look-alikes of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and more. The video was banned by MTV after Jackson’s attorneys got involved.
6/29/2023 This is a 1982 post-disco single that had fair charting success. The group performed the song in 1982 on Top of the Pops, a televised UK music show. During the show, Jeffrey Daniel, a member of Shalamar, introduced the moonwalk dance. This was many months before Michael Jackson performed it. The vocal trio originally consisted of Daniel, Jody Watley, and Howard Hewett. Hewett and Daniel are still there with Carolyn Griffey replacing Watley.
6/28/2023 Mr. Mellencamp really knows how to write songs. He would’ve done OK releasing everything as a single. Enjoy!!
6/26/2023 This English alternative rock band formed in 1983. Since then they have used many members, some more than once, with their active status. They have released five studio albums, six compilation albums, and 25 singles, coming up with some decent hits.
6/25/2023 This singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist was a successful, independent woman that never backed down from any kind of fight. Born Lizzie Douglass in 1897, she would be with us until 1973, recording more than 200 songs. Along with Kansas Joe McCoy, she composed, “When the Levee Breaks,” made more popular by Led Zeppelin. With Minnie and Joe however, the song is written from real life experience. Miss Jackson always chewed tobacco, and kept a spit can with her during performances.
6/24/2023 This indie rock duo has some surprising stuff. The inspiration for this song most likely came straight from the White House in the 70s. Rose Mary Stretch was the nickname of Nixon’s secretary. Claiming to have accidentally erased part of the Watergate tapes, she would have had to push two buttons simultaneously that were much further apart and any normal human could have stretched.
6/23/2023 Here we have the theme song for the 1960s musical television series, “Where the Action Is.” The show was a takeoff of American Bandstand, and created by Dick Clark. It was a decent hit for Cannon.
