S.O.D. "A Night to Remember" by Shalamar

6/29/2023 This is a 1982 post-disco single that had fair charting success. The group performed the song in 1982 on Top of the Pops, a televised UK music show. During the show, Jeffrey Daniel, a member of Shalamar, introduced the moonwalk dance. This was many months before Michael Jackson performed it. The vocal trio originally consisted of Daniel, Jody Watley, and Howard Hewett. Hewett and Daniel are still there with Carolyn Griffey replacing Watley.

S.O.D. "Me and My Chauffeur Blues" by Memphis Minnie

6/25/2023 This singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist was a successful, independent woman that never backed down from any kind of fight. Born Lizzie Douglass in 1897, she would be with us until 1973, recording more than 200 songs. Along with Kansas Joe McCoy, she composed, “When the Levee Breaks,” made more popular by Led Zeppelin. With Minnie and Joe however, the song is written from real life experience. Miss Jackson always chewed tobacco, and kept a spit can with her during performances.

S.O.D. "Rose Mary Stretch" by Pepper Rabbit

6/24/2023 This indie rock duo has some surprising stuff. The inspiration for this song most likely came straight from the White House in the 70s. Rose Mary Stretch was the nickname of Nixon’s secretary. Claiming to have accidentally erased part of the Watergate tapes, she would have had to push two buttons simultaneously that were much further apart and any normal human could have stretched.
